The Distinguished Gentleman's Drive, 24 Sept 2023

Sunday, 24 September 2023
8:00am - 4:00pm

Start Location confirmed as the Tramway Museum at Ferny Grove.

The 2023 Distinguished Gentleman's Drive has been confirmed for Sunday 24 Sept 2023.

We have 4 entrants so far, and are looking for more.

 Our entrants so far are:

Gary and Bron Hawkins
Christopher and Kim Brincat
John Godfrey
Michael Dwyer (in Mike Ovens' car as mine has had an electrical failure - thanks Mike).

If you want to participate, you will have to:
- register soon, at the DGD website: https://www.gentlemansdrive.com/
- arrange the costumes you intend to wear
- start getting support, through charity donations.

It starts at the Brisbane Tramways Museum, Ferny Grove. Entrants can arrive any time after 8.00 AM, with the Drive setting off 9.00 AM. It will meander over the hinterland for about 120 kms, and arrive at the Harrisville Pub about 11:00 AM, for lunch, talks, car viewing. Apparently there will also be some prizes.

There is a separate run starting from Noosa. The Sunshine Coast Chapter may want to look at this - Tony Slattery is in it already.

The Drive is a new international event, usually held in September each year. It's only been going for a couple of years, and is held in lots of cities and countries around the world. It takes the format of a drive around a region for a couple of hours, then a lunch at the destination. It's a charity event, with entrants getting donations and sponsors from their contacts, supporting men's cancer and health charities. It had its genesis in the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride for motorcyclists.

It is in our 2023 Calender on our website as a Listed Event for Brisbane and our 2 Chapters. We should register early to ensure we get in, with plenty of time to arrange or hire the expected clothing (flat caps can be bought from our Regalia Manager perhaps?). There is a $50 entry/registration "fee" but this can be donations from sponsors. It doesn't clash with All British Day or other events.

The Club has supported members in other charity drives and has agreed to donate $500 to be divided between all entrants.

There are some pre-conditions:

- vehicles being entered must be manufactured on or before 31/12/1979
- vehicles must be roadworthy and registered
- there is no timing or speed required, hence no MSA / CAMS permit or licences
- entrants should "dress up" to suit the part, dapper gents and stylish ladies.

In 2022 it was held on Sun 25 Sept 2022. In Brisbane, it started at the Tram Museum at Ferny Grove then meandered up around Samford and Mt Mee and finished at the Sandstone Point Hotel at Bribie for the lunch. It was also held at the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. Check out the Brisbane video, showing it looks like a mobile Macleans Bridge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvQyZSMWG5U
