The 60th Anniversary of The Bugeye Sprite

By Nev Mansfield

Well, it was the 20th May 2018 and the 60th Anniversary of our beloved Bugeye Sprites so we all headed for JC Slaughter Falls at the base of Mt Coo-tha for a picnic in the Park, and what a great day we had. 32 Cars, ten of which were Bugeyes and 47 people. Considering the size of our Club I thought it was a good roll up.

The weather could not have been better and the passing Public were not scared of parking and walking across the road to admire the cars. Apart from one driver in a SUV not watching where he was going and nearly knocking a cyclist off his bike, the Public were quietly impressed.

Keith, Alex and a few others put the Bali flags up, together with the Club Banner just to let thePublic know who we were and what we were doing. After we all got set up the ladies settled in to some nice cold Wine and dips. The men started as usual chatting about the cars.

Then Karen produced a beautiful Birthday Cake wishing the Bugeyes a Happy 60th Birthday, which we all sang, most of us in tune. Then we cut the cake into about 47 pieces and shared it around much to everyone's enjoyment. We also had our own BYO Lunches and drinks to enjoy.

What I really enjoyed the most was seeing some of our members turn up that we haven't seen for a while. I was very pleased and the Mansfield's actually had some of their road cars out – bloody amazing. Once again, thank you everyone for a glorious day.

Celebration of Birthday of the Bugeye – 1958 – 2018

By Keith and Karen Gordon

To celebrate the Bugeye 60th Birthday our Club met at a park at Mt Cootha on 20th May 2018. We could not have asked for a better day – Blue sky, a little crisp in the morning, but turned out to be a perfect day for showing off our little cars.

There were 47 attended with about 32 Spridgets and a couple of tin tops. An excellent turnout Huge thanks to all that attended.

We had a lovely BYO picnic in the Park, with lots of tales of fabulous runs, and breakdowns – all par for the course with these cars.

We had organised a cake for the occasion, and were able to obtain an Edible Image of the 1958, 1959, 1960 and 1961 Austin Healey Sprite Mk 1 all together on display in a park. This looked fantastic on the cake, and all enjoyed eating it.

Nev cut the cake (as it was his birthday as well) and we all sang "Happy Birthday to the Bugeye" then another Happy Birthday song for Nev as well. In all, a very relaxing day enjoying the company of fellow members of our Club.
